While most web hosts will offer packages that include domain name registration and web hosting together it is best to keep these purchases through separate companies. If there is going to be a problem with your web site it will most likely be with your web host and you will need to be able to move your site to a different host without worrying about your domain name registration mysteriously becoming something you have no control over.

Prices vary from $22 to over $80 pa - who you are registered through is important because your domain name is your on-line identity but price makes no difference here so get it as cheap as you can. Keep in mind that a .com.au domain name will require an Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN) but a .com does not.
